Senate Loses Another Member
Tragedy has again struck the nation‘s upper legislative chamber following the death of Senator Kawa Dukku.
Dukku representing Gombe North Senatorial District, died on Friday in Kaduna, barely 72 hours after Senator Tawa Wada had lost his life.
Incidentally, the two senators hailed from Gombe State. Wada who died on Wednesday at the National Hospital, Abuja, represented Gombe South Senatorial District.
Confirming Dukku‘s death on Saturday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media, Senator Ayogu Eze, in a statement, said the Senator died in Kaduna, where he had gone to see members of his family.
He said, ”We announce with sadness the sudden death of our dear colleague, Sen. Kawu Peto Dukku, who until his death on Friday April 2, 2010 represented Gombe North in the Senate.
”He died in Kaduna where he had gone to join his family for the one-week Easter break of the Senate. We will miss his humility and calmness. May his soul rest in peace.”
Dukku who was the Vice- Chairman, Senate Committee on States and Local Governments was also a committee member on Sports, Aviation, National Security and Intelligence. The death of Dukku has brought to three the number of senators from Gombe State who has died in office since December 2002. The first was Senator Idris Abubakar.
